Event description

During this Surf Apnea workshop, participants will learn a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge designed to enhance their surfing experience, safety, and overall water confidence. Here's a rundown of what you can expect:


Breath-Hold Techniques: Learn the fundamentals of breath-holding, focusing on techniques that extend breath-hold times safely and effectively. This includes understanding the physiology behind breath-holding and how to prepare your body and mind for extended periods without breathing.

Stress and Fear Management: Gain tools and strategies to manage stress and fear, particularly in high-pressure underwater situations. This section covers psychological aspects of fear in the water, how to remain calm when caught inside or held down by a wave, and techniques to control panic responses.

Functional Breathing: Explore breathing techniques that improve lung capacity, efficiency, and health. Learn how to optimize breathing for better performance in surfing and everyday life, including exercises to strengthen the diaphragm and increase oxygen uptake.

Dynamic Apnea Training: Engage in dynamic apnea exercises that simulate surfing scenarios, to build endurance and comfort in the water. This practical component helps surfers improve their ability to handle long hold-downs and intense paddling sessions.

Recovery Breathing: Master recovery breathing techniques to quickly and safely recover from breath-hold and high-exertion activities. This is crucial for minimising the risk of shallow water blackout and ensuring rapid oxygen replenishment after surfacing.

Safety and Rescue Skills: Learn essential safety protocols and rescue techniques specific to surfing and water activities. This includes identifying signs of hypoxia, performing safe rescues, and understanding the best practices for surf safety.

Mental Conditioning and Visualization: Incorporate mental conditioning and visualisation exercises to enhance focus, performance, and resilience in the surf. Participants will learn how to mentally prepare for surfing sessions, visualise successful wave riding, and cultivate a positive mindset.

    By the end of the Surf Apnea workshop, you will have a solid foundation in breath-hold and breathing techniques, enhanced mental and physical preparedness for surfing, and a toolkit for managing stress and fear in the water.
