About the event: Join us for this FREE event featuring speaker and author Darren Bennett as he shares his powerful story of how he and his family survived Cyclone Tracy.
Tracy struck Darwin in the early hours of Christmas Day in 1974. In his author's talk, he recounts the harrowing experience his family went through during the cyclone. Despite the traumatic event, Darren used this experience to complete his first novel and a children's book.
25.12.74, a time-travel thriller that takes you back to the morning when Cyclone Tracy wreaked havoc in Darwin. His new children's book is called Possum. This tells the story of his beloved pet cat - Possum, who went missing after Cyclone Tracy but was found three months later.
About the Author: Darren Bennett is an author who has written several highly regarded nonfiction books. 25.12.74 is his first novel, and Possum is his first children's book. Prior to embarking on his writing career, Darren spent twenty-five years as a high school teacher and leader in Brisbane. During his teenage years, he lived in Darwin, but now he resides in Brisbane, QLD, with his wife. Darren is also a highly accomplished and sought-after speaker whose presentations leave a lasting impact. He seamlessly blends stories with emotion, humour and multimedia to create engaging and memorable talks.
Darren has just returned from Darwin, where he delivered multiple presentations to rave reviews.
