Event description
You shouldn’t be stuck with high energy bills just because you rent. As part of Sustainable House Day, this discussion will cover practical tips that renters can take to save money on heating and cooling, what your rights are as a renter, and the campaign to bring Australia’s rental homes up to scratch when it comes to thermal performance and energy efficiency!
Speakers
Ben Cording, Principal Solicitor, Tenants Victoria
Ben has been the principal solicitor at Tenants Victoria for the past 7 years. He is a former school teacher, and passionate about science, the environment and housing. He has also worked extensively in prisons and the disability sector, and is the father of three young and adventurous children.
James Conlan, Sustainable Homes Project and Policy Officer, Environment Victoria
James campaigns to make our homes more energy efficient to help both people and planet. With a background in policy development and community campaigning, James believes in the power of people to make our homes and cities more sustainable.

Sushant Gurung Energy Advisor, Uniting
Sushant has a Masters in Environment and Sustainability and has been working on delivering behaviour-change focused energy efficiency programs for around 5 years. Sushant’s focus is on supporting tenants to understand the practical, no/low cost measures they can undertake to reduce their energy consumption.
MC: Rob McLeod, Renew
Rob McLeod is Renew’s Sustainable Housing Advocate. He has worked on housing, homelessness and climate issues as a community organiser, caseworker and policy advisor.
