Botanical dye workshop + Care to re-wear: Clothes swap
Event description
Botanical dye workshop
Carly, from Rivarossa Botanicals will introduce you to indigo dyeing, a beautiful and ancient craft that can transform your fabrics into stunning shades of blue.
Creating an indigo dye vat is an excellent way to upcycle clothing and fabrics, giving them a new lease on life with beautiful, rich hues.
This traditional dyeing technique, using soda ash, hydro sulphite, and indigo powder not only revitalises old garments but also reduces waste and promotes sustainable fashion practices, which you can also do at home!
This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over.
What to bring:
We recommend bringing two or three suitable garments for dyeing, such as shirts, socks, tea towels to make bandanas.
Time:
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
A limited number of Indigo DIY packs will be available to purchase for $35 from the presenter. the pack creates a 5L indigo Vat, where you could dye approximately 25 items (may be more or less depending on how the large the items you dye are). More information will be provided on the day.Â
Care to re-wear: Clothes swap
Do you have clothing that you don't love anymore? The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) are hosting a clothes swap!
Check your wardrobe for items you don’t wear anymore and bring them along to swap them for items you will wear. You can bring as much as you like as long as it is in clean and good wearable condition, and take as many or as few as you like.
All clothes should be washed prior to donation. All donated clothing will undergo a quality check, including cleanliness before being placed on the rack.
The clothes swap is a drop-in session and will take place from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
What to bring:
- All size clothing items - BOTH male & female accepted.
- No children's clothes
- Accessories - Hats, scarves, jewellery, bags
- Shoes
There will be an experienced sewer available throughout the clothes swap if you require mending and/or adjustments to the items you have swapped.Â
