Sustainable Garden Design
Description
Is your garden looking a little tired, overrun with weeds, and your plants struggling? Is your home hot in summer and cold in winter? This workshop on sustainable garden design is for everyone - home owners, renters, people with big gardens or tiny courtyards, seasoned gardeners or people just starting out. Learn practical, low-cost ways to create a beautiful garden that works with our local climate and soil, saves you time, money, and water, grow food and supports our local wildlife. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a simple plan that’s ready to put into action straight away.
About the Facilitator: Sanchia Hovey is a landscape designer, founder of Greenjoy, and has worked with the Wyndham Habitat Heroes and Naturestrip program for over 10 years, helping the community create beautiful, sustainable, wildlife-friendly gardens. She specialises in climate-resilient garden design and is passionate about giving people the tools and confidence to transform their own gardens. Sanchia’s work across the City of Wyndham has given her a deep understanding of local soil, climate, wind, and growing conditions – knowledge she’s put to good use in her own backyard, where her dog and 8 chickens regularly test the limits of her design skills (she’s full of practical, real-world tips and ideas).

Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.
Accessibility: If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you.
This My Smart Garden event is proudly presented by Wyndham City Council on the land of the Bunurong and Wadawurrung peoples of the Kulin nation.
