    Event description

    We're hosting eight free online sessions for Sustainable House Day, bringing together SHD homeowners and experts to give you insight from lived experience as well as leading industry knowledge. It's all part of our work to transform Australian homes for climate and energy resilience.

    You only need to register once to give you access to all sessions across the entire day. Tune in for the sessions that interest you, or stay with us for the entire day from the comfort of your own home.

    Please note, these sessions will be recorded and sent to everyone who has registered.

    • 10AM: Do it yourself: Owner-building

    If you’re thinking of taking on the challenge of owner- building, this session will give you insight into the benefits and thrills of doing-it-yourself, as well as the challenges and pitfalls to avoid.

    • 11AM: Design for life: Accessibility and ageing in place

    Sustainable design is not just about the environment, but about building homes that will adapt to our changing needs. Accessible design has benefits for everyone; learn how our homeowners have put it into practice.

    • 12PM: Creating sustainable housing: Eco communities and co-housing

    Many of us crave living in a community, but starting something new can be intimidating and overwhelming. In this session we will learn from homeowners who have established sustainable community living.

    • 1PM: Quick and easy? Exploring prefab and modular homes

    The appeal of modular and prefab homes is that they can be installed onsite in just a few days, and can be be expanded in the future to fit around needs and finances. Learn whether it really is this easy from those who have taken this path already.

    • 2PM: Running on sun: Using rooftop solar and battery storage at home

    Rooftop solar works a little differently for everyone, but it is a key part of transitioning away from fossil fuels. Hear from homeowners who have navigated choosing the right solar and battery system for their home.

    • 3PM: EVs and the grid: Understanding sustainable transport

    Electric vehicles are finally arriving in Australia. So what sort of home setup is required? In this session we will hear from homeowners who have integrated sustainable transport in their lives.

    • 4PM: Maximum efficiency: Lowering your energy bills

    Global pressure on supply chains in a changing climate mean that energy prices will continue to rise. In this discussion, our homeowners will share sustainable strategies to keep your bills manageable.

    • 5PM: On the cheap: Sustainable design on a budget

    Sustainability should be for everyone, not just those with big budgets. In this session we’ll hear from homeowners who have created wonderfully effective sustainable homes that didn’t break the bank.
