What is Affordable Rental Housing?

Local Candidates Forum

We’re inviting candidates of the upcoming local council elections for the Sutherland Shire in December to make commitments to improve the availability of Affordable Rental Housing in our Local Government area. However,

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We're looking for as many community members as possible to attend, showing that Sutherland Shire residents are concerned about housing for their communities that is affordable for:

  • hospitality industry workers
  • single parents
  • healthcare and emergency workers
  • service industry workers
  • childcare workers
  • Aged pensioners

Among many others

By June 2022, Council will implement updates to the Housing Strategy and Sutherland Shire LEP to specify how an Affordable Rental Housing target, ideally 10% of new development, will be delivered, measured, and monitored, in line with NSW State Government and Greater Sydney Commission targets.

Council commits to regular audits of all local Council land to identify suitable opportunities for the development of Affordable Rental Housing projects

Council agrees to establish an Affordable Housing Panel including Council staff and Community Organisations to:

  • Communicate with the community
  • Coordinate research and land audits
  • Identify specific opportunities for development that are suitable for Affordable Rental Housing.
  • Monitor the delivery of Affordable Rental Housing dwellings

Please include your organisation(s) & division in the information when registering:
(e.g. St John's Anglican Church Sutherland, Gallipoli Mosque Auburn, CatholicCare, Lane Cove Uniting, Srs of St Joseph, RTBU Bus Division)
