Sydherbs presents ~ Amy Sartorel ~ SOUNDS FROM THE GROUND - A HERBAL SOUNDSCAPE
Event description
Hello Herbies,
Welcome to an immersive and sensory sound experience listening to the medicinal herbs we use as Naturopaths and Herbalists via a bio-sonification device, a nonintrusive technology that translates the natural biorhythms of living organisms into sound. In this presentation, participants will listen to the recorded sound frequencies of 5 medicinal herbs via sensors placed on the herb’s leaves, flowers, stems, and roots, which detect micro fluctuations in the plants conductivity. The plants are playing the music in real time, like a pianist performing on piano, the herbs are the virtuoso.
The talk will feature images and sounds of the processes involved in harvesting the herbal sound frequencies. Guests will have the opportunity to hear plants playing live during the presentation and are invited to participate in a 5-minute herbal sound bath at the end. Join us for an immersive and sensory experience as the herbs we prescribe as Naturopaths speak to us in their language via the gift of sound.
We will also be sharing in the aromatics and tastes of herbs as we are excited to announce that Glunch will be intentionally crafting a lovely menu that pairs with the soundscape as we explore the herbs with Amy ~ creating a fully immersive sensory experience.
Glunch is an actually yum food-as-medicine catering and meal delivery service. Key Take-Aways All living things, including medicinal plants vibrate at a certain frequency, creating an energetic resonance.
Sound frequencies are as ancient as the Earth itself, and as sensory beings, we can use sound frequencies to help clear energetic blockages, re-harmonise our bodies, and bring a state of ease
Are the sounds we hear the plants communicating to us through language? Is this a way humans can collaborate with non-human organisms and beings to gain the perspective of the ‘other’.
All compositions were produced by musician Neal Sutherland and recorded curated by Naturopath, Amy Sartorel for the NHAA Summit in 2024. This sounds were harvested along the Cook's River in Marrickville, Sydney - Australia. Lavender, Rosemary, Ribwort, Fennel and Gotu Kola were all growing wild in and around the area.
‘We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the Cooks River catchment, together with other Aboriginal people who have made it their home.’
