Event description

Sydney Authors Inked is a collective of authors, we do author interviews and writing/publishing workshops at The Little Big House, Summer Hill. These are social and educational events with our next event on Sunday 4 August 2024 from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm

Join Sydney Authors Inked in Conversation with Veronica Strachan - nurse, midwife, DON, CEO, entrepreneur, coach, facilitator, author and podcaster.

Veronica Strachan spent much of her childhood lost in a good book, but most of her adult life lost in a good job as a nurse, midwife, DON, CEO, entrepreneur, coach, facilitator, author and podcaster. Her dream of being a writer was interrupted by the realities of life, death and grief. At 55, almost 20 years after the passing of her 4-year-old daughter, Jacqui Bree, she finally wrote and published her first book. Breathing While Drowning: One Woman’s Quest for Wholeness is about hope, courage and finding your way home.

With her memoir honouring her daughter’s fragile life complete, she unleashed V.E. Patton the creative fantasy writer, and let loose the flood of stories and words proliferating in her brain. Ochre Dragon: The Opal Dreaming Chronicles is her first fantasy. With her daughter Cassi, she released three picture books about a chicken called Chickabella to celebrate diversity and teach little humans about colours, numbers and shapes.

While writing and publishing her own and others' stories, she teamed up with Darren Kasenkow and built the Australian Book Lovers website to celebrate and support Australian authors. There is also a podcast showcasing authors and their work connecting them to readers around the world. ABL lists hundreds of books and has hundreds of hours of interviews and information on writing in these podcasts.

Veronica balances writing and podcasting with her love of coaching and facilitating leadership programs in the rural health sector, working with remarkable leaders who want to make a powerful and compassionate impact on the world. Of course, when she’s not working or chatting to authors, she is sure to have her nose deep in a book or three.

Join us for a fun, interesting, and educational two hours where you are sure to learn about the art of writing, meet our authors, and buy your next great read in our Book Corner.

If you are an author interested in doing a talk or would like to be interviewed, please email us, and we'll get back to you.
