Tackling Weeds in a Bushland Reserve
Event description
Tackling weeds in a bushland reserve
Tuesday 10 September 2024 1.30-2.30 pm online on Zoom
Join WALN and its special guests to discuss how best to tackle the seemingly insurmountable burden of introduced weeds in a bushland reserve. Â
Many Friends of Reserve Groups are daunted by the sheer number of weeds in their local patch, and could use a bit of guidance about how to prioritise and plan an effective weed control program. This is a chance to raise your weed control issues in a forum of like minded people and to hear from others about their challenges and their strategies. Â
We will hear from Peta Lierich, Biodiversity Officer and weed specialist from Nature Conservation Margaret River Region about how groups can tackle their weed issues and how they are working with nearby residents to ensure reinfestation of reserves is minimised.
We will also be joined by Peta Goodwin from the Friends of Barrett Street Reserve in Margaret River who is passionate about tackling weeds in her patch. Hear how this small group have planned weed control activities, harnessed external volunteer labour to make an impact, and even engaged an artist to raise community awareness of common weeds within the reserve.
This event is generously supported by the WA Government's State Natural Resource Management Program and the National Landcare Network.
