July's event will focus on 'Landuse Transition'
Extreme weather events in Tairāwhiti have caused significant environmental, economic and social impact on our region. It has been identified that some land needs to transition from pasture or forestry into permanent vegetation cover to mitigate and manage the damage from erosion, sedimentation and woody debris.
This affects us all in Tairāwhiti.
Work has been happening on landuse transition through the Transition Advisory Group. This is a cross-sector group set up to:
create a series of options based on existing examples and case studies across Tairāwhiti and Aotearoa.
create a transition guide that outlines transition steps for specific sites while making sure it works well with adjoining land.
advise on a business case to secure investment to support the transition
This event will showcase this work through a panel discussion with:
Gisborne District Council - an overview of the work
A forestry representative from the Transition Advisory Group
A farming representative from the Transition Advisory Group
A Taiao representative from the Transition Advisory Group
A representative from the Citizens Assembly
Bring your questions for the team.
After, there will be a 15-minute workshop to identify some challenges and solutions for your business/our region around this topic.
Entry is free and includes snacks. Please RSVP on Humanitix for catering purposes
