Description

Do you have African lovegrass on your property?

This highly invasive weed has recently been declared as a National Established Weed Priority, so now is the ideal time to find out more about how to control it. While managing African lovegrass can feel overwhelming, there are practical and effective options available. This field day will showcase real on-ground management activities and provide practical guidance suitable for your property.

Join PIRSA, Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu, and the Connor Family at Nangkita Dairy to learn how to identify and manage African lovegrass.

On the day, you will discover:

  • How to identify African lovegrass and distinguish it from lookalike species

  • The most effective African lovegrass control options for a variety of scenarios, including chemical and non-chemical approaches

  • How the Connor family is successfully tackling African lovegrass at Nangkita Dairy, and the impacts this weed has on agricultural industries

  • The fire threat of African lovegrass and how it impacted the Connors.

You will also:

  • Take part in a walking tour of the property

  • Observe practical demonstrations from experienced weed control contractors including a drone demonstration

  • Receive a personalised property map, practical advice, and a plan to help manage African lovegrass on your property.

A range of biosecurity and hygiene tools will also be showcased on the day. PIRSA staff will be on hand to share more about their current African Lovegrass Control Program and how to apply.

Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu will share copies of ‘Five Steps to Effective Weed Control guide and help with planning tips.

Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided. Event address provided on signing up.

As this is an in-field event with limited facilities, attendees should be prepared with long pants and closed shoes, and other sun-smart clothing. Please come prepared for changeable weather and bring a bottle of water. A fold-up chair will also be necessary.

The African Lovegrass Control Program is funded by the regional landscape levy, the Australian Government and the Government of South Australia through the African Lovegrass - Building Regional Strength for National Impact Program.
