Taking an Inquiry Stance in Writing Workshop

with Kath Murdoch, Matt Glover and Lisa Burman


What does it mean to bring an inquiry stance into a Writing Workshop?

How can our intentional teaching invite and activate the thinking of young writers? 

How can we tap into the curiosity of young writers as a springboard for their learning?

We know many educators are also curious about these questions – because you ask us about them all the time! 



This professional learning opportunity might be a little different to the workshops and webinars you’re used to. Rather than just providing three slide presentations, each speaker will share some ‘food for thought’ around a question – a provocation for our thinking. Then Kath, Matt and Lisa will be in conversation with each other about this idea – all for you to eavesdrop on!  You’ll also have the opportunity to ask your questions and share your ideas throughout the day. We’ll all be in the Chat Room, responding to these and connecting the ideas with you. 

This is a unique opportunity to tap into the thinking of three experienced educators and pedagogical consultants. It’s the first time all three have collaborated together in this way! 



Session 1: Kath Murdoch’s ‘Food for Thought’

What are the guiding principles of inquiry and how do you see they connect to the ways we engage with young writers?

Session 2: Matt Glover’s ‘Food for Thought’

How can we tap into and use the curiosity of young writers as a springboard for learning? 

Session 3: Lisa Burman’s ‘Food for Thought’

If ‘learning floats on a sea of talk’, what kind of talk best positions us as writing inquirers?

Each session will be recorded, and a link emailed within 24 hours, so you can view it in your time zone. This will be active for 14 days. 

What if I want to participate with a team? 

Please register each person individually so they log into their own device. No sharing of screens please.

What platform will be used?

A Zoom link will be emailed in the week prior. Please ensure each person registered is logged into their own device.
