Talk and Walk on Rising Seas in Bristol County with Linda Megathlin
Event description
The talk and walk will begin in the Majorie Van Wickle Lyon Gallery in the Visitors Center as featured artist Linda Megathlin talks about her artwork titled “Rising Seas”. She will speak about how the project started, and the process of how she used maps, scientific renderings of projected inundations, and photographs she took of the shoreline to present her imaginings of what sea level rise might look like in Bristol County 2050 - 2100.
Linda will mention some of the new developments that have happened since her work was first exhibited in 2022, and ongoing efforts to save the saltmarsh sparrow that builds its nests at nearby Jacob’s Point in Warren.
Following her remarks, Dan Christina, Director of Horticulture at Blithewold, will talk about the evolution of plans for a berm project underway at Blithewold and will lead the group on a walk out to the freshwater pond on the Blithewold grounds where saltwater infiltration is already occurring.
Blithewold’s restored 1925 Victrola Credenza phonograph is celebrating its 100th birthday! Come join Ned Connors, historian of recorded sound and friend of Blithewold, for an evening of period 78 RPM records played on the mansion’s rare and still hearty Credenza, plus a talk on the popular culture and recorded sound of the remarkable—and often misunderstood—decade of the 1920s.
Feel free to dress the part and don your favorite fascinator, beads, and fringe while you sip and snack on some “roaring good” goodies.
