Event description

Appreciating diverse language and culture in financial education

Australia has a culturally and linguistically rich population. However, financial education materials often fail to recognise the profound influence of cultural backgrounds and traditions on people's approaches to financial decision making. This also contributes to the exclusion from the financial system that many people feel because it does not incorporate cultural ways of knowing, being and doing.

From resource-sharing reciprocity within First Nations kinship groups to the prohibition of interest in Islamic finance, embracing diversity offers much for us to learn and reflect on. In this webinar, we’ll discuss how cultural perspectives shape financial behaviours, the importance of language accessibility in financial resources, and strategies for acknowledging diverse perspectives in education activities.

Note: Times are Eastern Standard Time. This will be 4.00pm in Adelaide, 2.30pm in Perth, and 4.00pm in Darwin
