TALK WITH LEGO® BUILDER: A Normal Day at Jurassic Park

Join young Canberran LEGO® enthusiast Eric Wanigasekara as he takes you behind the scenes of his award-winning creation, A Normal Day at Jurassic Park, and reveals how an idea can grow into a detailed, interactive LEGO® world. Eric will share his creative and engineering design process, from imagination and planning through to building, testing, problem-solving and refining the final creation.

Using examples and live demonstrations, Eric will explore LEGO® design techniques, including building mountains, rockwork and trees and the creation of realistic water effects. Audiences will discover how features such as the monorail and mechanised dinosaur chase scenes were engineered, and gain insight into the combination of creativity, design thinking and technical skill behind the project.

Designed for school-aged children, families, LEGO® enthusiasts and dinosaur fans alike, this session will encourage participants to think like designers and engineers, experiment with new ideas, and bring their own imaginative creations to life.

The session will conclude with an interactive demonstration and Q&A.

A Normal Day at Jurassic Park

On display during the talk, A Normal Day at Jurassic Park is inspired by the iconic Jurassic Park and Jurassic World film franchises. The work imagines a newly rebuilt dinosaur park on Isla Nublar, where everything appears to be running smoothly until an erupting volcano throws the island into chaos. As dinosaurs escape their enclosures and visitors scramble to safety, the once-thriving attraction descends into mayhem. Then again, it's just another normal day at Jurassic Park.

About Eric

Eric Wanigasekara is a Year 9 student at Brindabella Christian College with a passion for LEGO®, robotics, design and engineering. His LEGO® journey began at age five with a small fire truck and has grown into the creation of large-scale, technically ambitious models that combine imaginative design with complex moving mechanisms.

Since the age of six, Eric has exhibited his work at events including the Canberra Brick Expo and major LEGO® exhibitions in Sydney and Newcastle. In 2026, he received the Public Vote Award at BrickBuilt Sydney for A Normal Day at Jurassic Park, marking his second consecutive win in this category. Eric has twice been invited to LEGO® Australia's Sydney headquarters and has met LEGO® Masters contestants and judges through his exhibition work. He hopes one day to compete on LEGO® Masters Australia and follow in the footsteps of Brickman.
