Event description

Talking Circle

Creativity with the Landscape

Friday 26th September 5.30-7pm
E3 Art Space, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery

We invite you to bring your unique perspective and participate in a talking circle facilitated by this year's RAD x Earth Canvas artist in residence, Rhae Kendrigan, and regenerative farmer Gillian Sanbrook.

The talking circle will address the topic of Creativity with the Landscape. We will explore the question of: in what ways does human creativity contribute to the regeneration of landscapes?

Rhae Kendrigan is this year’s RAD x Earth Canvas artist in residence. The residency is structured as a two-week stay on a regenerative farm followed by two weeks in the studio. This opportunity, a partnership between Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and Earth Canvas, is part of the RAD Residency Program and offers one artist the chance to engage deeply with environmental themes, particularly those related to healthy landscapes, soil, food, and a sustainable planet.

During the event, you’ll also have the opportunity to view works in progress created by Rhae during their residency.

What is talking circle?

It is literally- a circle! We gather in a non-hierarchical form where each person brings their own unique perspective on the topic. The importance is exploring the question itself, not rushing to the answer. It is optional to share- but the aim is to encourage a flow of conversation around the circle which enables us to unpack the topic/question in an organic way. The facilitators will get us started with a story about their experience. We hope you all leave having gained something for your own practice, whether that’s a new idea, a new friend, or a new question to hold.

Your facilitators

Rhae Kendrigan

Rhae is a socially and environmentally engaged artist based on Latji Latji Country (Mildura) and working across regional Victoria and NSW. Their work as a practicing artist and creative producer explores the intersections between body and place, serving as a process for understanding systems awareness. Their performance practice is grounded in a deep connection to landscape via the methodology of Bodyweather, a comprehensive training and performance practice that develops a conscious relation to the state of change inside and outside the body.

Gillian Sanbrook

Regenerative farmer Gillian Sanbrook established Earth Canvas Incorporated, an art and regenerative farming project to get land managers to look at the landscape from a creative perspective and engage everyone with healthy soil and landscapes. Her farm Bibbaringa is a place for people to learn about Regenerative Farming practices and being creative in all forms of the arts. She engages with Holistic Management and Natural Sequence Farming to hydrate the land through the use of ground cover, contours, leaky weirs and dams.
