Talking 'Purpose' with WiT from Google Australia

Event description

Global research has shown that close to two-thirds of employees say the pandemic has made them rethink their purpose in life (and at work).  Finding purpose is a common theme in our own women in tech (WiT) mentoring programme in the F Factor

Industry reports (Accenture & NCWIT) show that 50-56% of women leave tech mid-career (more than double the rate of men). Our hypothesis is that women want to do the work they love but in an environment where they feel a sense of belonging and can find purpose and meaning in the work they're doing.

As a major employer of software engineering folk in Australia, we looked to Google to delve deeper into this theme of Purpose. We want to know how WiT at Google find purpose and belonging within their roles in an enterprise environment.

So we're talking to women in engineering at Google Australia and asking:

  • How does working with products of such scale as Google Maps, Chrome, Photos etc, translate into purpose and meaning?
  • What does belonging look like in an enterprise the size of Google?

This is 'real-talk' aimed at informing our community
as part of our work with Google Australia on Program 50/50.

All in 45 minutes - so tune in while you break for lunch.

Among other things, we'll be exploring:

  • Can I find purpose in a large company?
  • How can I feel like I belong in this male-dominated industry?
  • What kind of support does a company like Google offer its people when it comes to living their purpose?

You should attend if:

  • You're a woman working in a software engineering career (at any level)
  • You're a woman working in software engineering leadership or management careers
  • You're a woman in technology interested in Google as an employer

Looking forward to seeing you there!
