The Great Tāmaki Art Raffle

Welcome to the Great Tāmaki Art Raffle - fundraising for the Greens 2026 Party Vote campaign in the Tāmaki Electorate! We have 3 pieces up for raffle tickets: 1.) an incredible lightbox by Cathy Carter, 2.) a photography collaboration by Mark Smith and Felicity Jones, and 3.) some beautiful bracelets sculpted by Frances Battersby.

We are also running a silent auction for a stunning Karl Maughan printed, valued at $6,500. This has a minimum reserve of $4,000, and bids can be placed by emailing your bid amount and contact details to donald.mackenziemayo@greens.org.nz. We will let you know if you're outbid and ask if you want to bid again.

The Cathy Carter piece is valued at $4,900 and tickets are selling for $10 each. There are 500 maximum tickets for this raffle.

The Mark Smith x Felicity Jones is valued at $1,500 and tickets are selling for $10 each. There are 150 maxmimum tickets for this raffle.

The Frances Battersby bracelets are valued at $500 together and tickets are selling for $5 each. There are 100 maximum tickets for this raffle.

We started these raffles back in June during our home cafe and pub quiz fundraising events but they MUST CLOSE by last day of September so get in quick!

Cathy Carter -  Turbulent Teal Sea’ #2 LED Lightbox with aluminium frame 480 x 760mm

Cathy Carter is a photographic and multimedia conceptual artist, based in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Her art is inspired by concerns about climate change and our evolving relationship with bodies of water as we enter the Anthropocene.

'My art practice explores bodies of water as physical, cultural, and unique environmental ‘landscapes’ and investigates our complex psychological relationship to water through different perspectives and geographical locations.'

Mark Smith and Felicity Jones - ‘Case Studies’ Piece

Mark and Felicity's work explores the fascinating history of botanical globalisation, focusing on plant exchanges between Aotearoa and the rest of the world, and in particular stories surrounding the Wardian Case. This simple wood and glass structure invented in early 19th century London was transformational in changing the New Zealand landscape forever. Their images are both poetic and provoke curiosity, as well as furthering discussion around the ongoing impacts of colonisation on Aotearoa's environmental and cultural landscapes.

Frances Battersby - Gold and Silver Bracelets

Frances Battersby is sculptor and jeweller who has led a unique artistic career spanning three decades and three cultures. Producing a varied array of work, she explores artistic themes such as scale, biophilia, eco-art and architecture and creates hybrid aesthetics. Frances began her career at Elam School of Fine Arts, graduating as the Senior Scholar. She then trained in Japanese Art for five years, beginning her research at Hiko Mizuno College in Tokyo where she studied traditional precious metal techniques.

Karl Maughan is a painter based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. His colourful gardenscapes are perennially popular and instantly recognisable. Released in a limited edition of 40 for each colourway, Huia North, Huia South, Huia East, and Huia West feature Maughan’s distinctive use of vibrant colours with over 30 individual colour separations to create each print.

The Huia series was in production for over a year and follows his earlier sold-out Rata Road released in 2020. Screenprint on Lanaquarelle 640gsm, 976 x 1460mm, 1070 x 1550 x 60mm framed.
