    Event description

Attention, queridas amigas Latinas in Phoenix!

Get ready to unwind and recharge between Christmas and New Year's Eve with Tamales y Terapia—an event unlike any other. This unique gathering no solo nos conecta con nuestra cultura through the traditional art of tamale-making but also incorporates a powerful therapeutic component led by a professional therapist, making it a truly holistic healing experience. This first-of-its-kind event is a celebration de nuestra cultura, resilience, and shared experiences.

Picture yourself in a nurturing espacio exclusively for Latinas, where we’ll learn to make delicious tamales while nurturing our souls. This gathering es sobre conectar with new friends, our culture, ancestral wisdom, and, above all, with ourselves. We’ll share historias, savor our creations, and find mutual support.

Nuestra querida anfitriona, Nancy Díaz, is not only passionate about cooking but also about supporting women as a mental health professional. Nancy understands the power de la comida y la comunidad en el proceso de sanación. That’s why she’s combined her two passions to create something truly special.

Durante esta sesión de 3 horas, vamos a aprender importantes lecciones de la vida through the power of cooking. In this espacio, we’ll laugh, cry, dance, get messy, and heal. Aquí seremos auténticas—no masks. 🌟

¡Pero eso no es todo! Participants will have the opportunity to learn técnicas from Nancy, una terapeuta informada en traumas, sobre cómo reducir sus niveles de activación y ansiedad. Esto es más que una clase de cocina—it’s a holistic healing experience that blends culinary tradition with ancestral knowledge and somatic techniques that improve our mental health.

Gracias a la magia de la masa, conectaremos con nuestras emociones mediante una actividad de Brainspotting—a holistic therapy that brings healing to our cuerpos.

So get ready, invite your comadres, and let’s create magia together! 🎉 If you’d like to bring productos from your culture, like mate, PAN, or your favorite rebozo, feel free to do so. And if you don’t have something from your país, don’t worry—just come with an open heart. This is an event you won't want to miss as you'll leave with an abundance of conexiones y sanación through community.

Note: Este evento será en Spanglish. If you’re not completely confident speaking Spanish, please still join us because this event es sobre reclamar nuestra cultura y lenguaje, and everything that has been lost. First and second-generation (or even beyond) Latinas y Latines que se identifican como mujeres son bienvenidas. 🌟

    Land Acknowledgment:

We would like to acknowledge that we will be meeting on the traditional lands de los pueblos O'odham y Piipaash, whose historical and ancestral relationships with the land continue to this day. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. As a migrant, también reconozco la resiliencia y sabiduría de los pueblos indígenas a nivel global. Let us honor their rich cultures and continue the work de reconciliación y entendimiento.
