Event description

Film screening and live music event.

Please join us for a screening of ‘Forest Defenders’, a documentary that was filmed on the frontline of the blockade to defend a pocket of Tasmanian wilderness, the largest tract of cool temperate rainforest in the world, the pristine and ancient Tarkine. This stunning documentary ‘Forest Defenders’ has captured the wild native forests of Tasmania and the Bob Brown Foundations action to defend these forests. It is a grassroots documentary, filmed across Tasmania by the activists themselves. Capturing the hundreds of volunteers who took part in the takayna/Tarkine Sumac Ridge Blockade, Ta Ann veneer mill shut down and multi-day occupations and disruptions of logging operations in the Que River, Pieman, Wentworth Hills and Mt Field areas. While these actions were happening, (the forest defenders) Ramji and Crusty were filming throughout. Forest Defenders provides a powerful and beautiful insight into why these spectacular parts of native forests and rainforest are worthy of protection, showing the day-to-day lives of those who fight for protection.
