Event description
This University House tour to Australia’s smallest and most historic capital is escorted from Melbourne by Operation and Beverage Manager Christian Maier and Catering & Events Coordinator Belinda Wrathall. Includes flights, accommodation, most meals, transfers, and daily sightseeing tours.
Accommodation is at RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel which is in the heart of Hobart’s cultural within easy walking distance of Constitution Dock, the shopping precinct and the iconic Salamanca Markets. Accommodation is in a one-bedroom apartment which includes plush king size bedding, and separate and spacious bathroom and living area.
Day 1. Saturday 15 February (L/D)
This morning we depart from Melbourne, flying Qantas, for the Tasmanian capital, Hobart. Upon arrival we are transferred to Frogmore Creek winery, which is located in beautiful Coal River Valley, just 20 minutes from Hobart’s CBD. After a wine tasting and some charcuterie, we will enjoy a Private Lunch in Pooley’s Prospect House award-winning restaurant. After checking in to RACV Hobart Apartment for a three-night stay, which includes breakfast daily,
we will discover more of Tasmania’s burgeoning beverage industry with a visit to the Lark Distillery, before making our way to the waterfront for a sumptuous private dinner at The Old Wharf Restaurant.Â
Day 2. Sunday 16 February (B/L/D)
This morning, after breakfast, we make our way to the Brooke Street ferry terminal for ‘Posh Pit’ service to the Berriedale Peninsula, about 30 minutes away, where both the incredible MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) and the Moorilla Winery are situated. Our day will be spent exploring the eclectic and sometimes eyebrow raising collections at MONA, as well as lunch at the gastronomic restaurant The Source and a tasting at Moorilla Winery. We return to the CBD in the afternoon, and this evening we enjoy a Private Dining experience with wine pairing at Me Wah restaurant in Sandy Bay.Â
Day 3. Monday 17 February (B/L/D)
Today we embark on a full day of sightseeing on the bountiful Bruny Island, located to the south of Hobart. The day includes a veritable smorgasbord of gastronomic indulgences including cheese tasting at Bruny Island Cheese, Oyster tasting at Get Shucked, plus many other visits. Between stops we watch out for the rare white wallabies that make this island home. Dinner this evening is the at RACV Hobart with a menu paired with premium local wines.Â
Day 4. Tuesday 18 February (B)
Optional activity: ‘Tasmania’s Ultimate Downhill Bicycle Ride’ Tour at $199 per person
After breakfast this morning, we get to work off all additional kilojoules we have consumed on ‘Tasmania’s Ultimate Downhill Bicycle Ride’. The ride departs from the summit of Mt Wellington, where we can enjoy the incredible views of Hobart from above, before descending 1270 metres to sea level on a 21-kilometre guided journey that captures contrasting landscapes from sub-alpine and mountain rainforests to the vibrant waterfront of Hobart. The ride is at a leisurely pace and suitable for anyone who can ride a bicycle.
The rest of the day is at leisure. After working up such an appetite, you might like to enjoy lunch at one of the many delightful waterfront restaurants that are within an easy walk of the RACV/RACT Apartment Hotel. Later this afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your early evening flight home to Melbourne.Â
