Event description

Presenter: Siobhan Murphy MBA, CPA, CFM, C

Format of Class: In Person, Experiential Lecture

About the Class: As a massage therapist running your own practice, navigating income taxes can be overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be. This course is designed specifically for massage therapists and bodywork professionals who want to understand how to confidently manage their tax responsibilities, maximize deductions, and avoid costly mistakes.

We’ll begin by breaking down what’s actually deductible for your profession—everything from equipment and supplies to continuing education, mileage, and home office expenses. You’ll learn how to distinguish between personal and business expenses, and how to apply the “ordinary and necessary” rule used by the IRS.

Next, we’ll focus on audit-proofing your tax return. You’ll gain practical tips on what documentation to keep, how to track expenses accurately, and which red flags to avoid that can trigger an IRS audit. We’ll discuss simple systems for maintaining receipts, mileage logs, and digital records, even if you’re not a “numbers person.”

Finally, we’ll cover how to organize your tax-related documents throughout the year to reduce stress and avoid last-minute panic. You’ll leave empowered to stay on top of your finances with minimal effort.

Throughout the session, there will be plenty of time for Q&A, so bring your tax questions! Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, this is your chance to get clear, personalized answers from a CPA who understands small business.
