Online Book Launch – Taylor Swift: Culture, Capital, & Critique
Event description
Join us for the online book launch of Taylor Swift: Culture, Capital, & Critique.
This edited collection sees experts across a wide range of academic fields turn their attention to all things Taylor Swift. From looking at how being part of Swift's fandom helps fans gain skills for other areas of their life, to Swift's inspiration for drag persona Taylor Sheesh in the Philippines, to whether Swift's lyrics suggest she endorses the use of public transport, this book covers it all. The chapters in the collection do not necessarily look at Swift the individual person, but rather, Swift the phenomenon.
The event will be hosted by one of the book's editors, Rebecca Trelease (Auckland University of Technology), with words from Lisa Perrott (University of Waikato), and readings from several chapter authors:
Aimee-Sophia Lim on Taylor Swift’s Influence on Southeast Asian Swifties’ Socio-political Activism
Allison Anne Atis on Taylor (Sheesh)’s Version: Recreating and Co-creating Taylor Swift through Filipino Drag and Fandom Participation
Andrew Reeves on What Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Can Teach Us about Cyberattacks
