Course Description:
After childbirth, women often experience various discomforts. Traditional Chinese culture has the practice of "zuò yuè zi" (postpartum confinement; Doing-the-month) to assist in physical and mental recovery. Chinese herbal medicine prescriptions play a crucial role in this practice. A comprehensive Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach to postpartum care can help new mothers achieve full recovery and improve their quality of life during the puerperium. Additionally, Chinese herbal medicine is essential in supporting lactation, as certain TCM herbs enhance milk production and reduce the risk of milk duct obstruction.
This course will introduce the application of Chinese herbal medicine in postpartum care, focusing on four commonly used prescriptions: Sheng-Hua-Tang, Yue-Sheng-Tang, Modified Si-Shen-Tang, and Chun-Yang-Tang. The course will analyze the composition of these formulas and discuss various Chinese herbs that promote lactation and facilitate milk duct clearance, along with their practical applications.
Five Goals:
1. Understand the four stages of TCM postpartum care.
2. Learn about the TCM constitution and physiology of postpartum women.
3. Recognize the indications and contraindications of Sheng Hua Tang.
4. Differentiate between deficiency-type and excess-type insufficient lactation.
5. Apply Chinese herbal medicine to treat insufficient lactation in breastfeeding mothers.
