The aim of this mini course is for you to be able to understand & construct simple sentences & questions.

Content covered through Mini Course # 3 'Simple Sentences' includes;

  • tenses (past, present, future)
  • common verbs (to run, work, eat, sing etc.)
  • pronouns (I, you, we, they, he, she, it)
  • whānau vocab
  • animals vocab
  • putting this altogether to create simple sentences & questions

Classes will be friendly and interactive - suitable for all types of adult learners. Class activities will involve some writing/ reading but mostly speaking and listening. This course is designed for those who have done some lessons on pronunciation and have a little Māori knowledge but want to take the next step. If you have a laptop, tablet or smartphone available for use in class and for small practice tasks at home, you would get more out of the course - but it's not essential.

Registration is required and classes will only commence if minimum numbers are booked in. Please check you can (ideally) make it to all 4 sessions in this course before signing up.

We want to make these mini courses accessible for all, so are proud to offer them for free. For those who would like to contribute to the cost of the training, we also have an option of koha tickets where you choose an amount that feels right to you. Any funds received will go to Connecting Mid Canterbury (the charitable trust behind Keep Learning Mid Canterbury) and will enable the trust to pay the tutor and run more such events in the future.

We welcome Māori and non-Māori adults from all walks of life - any one who would like to learn & improve their Māori language skills and confidence. Let's learn and practice together in a safe and welcoming space.

Nau mai, haere mai.
