Te Whare Mātā o ngā Kirearea - Predator Free Wānanga - (Re)storying the Possum
Event description
Protecting our ngāhere is central to who we are as kaitiaki. In this hui, we will hear from and exchange knowledge with an Aboriginal delegation of possum skin cloak knowledge holders, from southeastern Australia, that will help us better understand the possum and its significance to our whanaunga Te Whenua Moemoea. We will also invite Māori-led Predator Free initiatives to share their stories about the possum and its management here in Aotearoa. This exchange will challenge us to think about the possum in different ways, whilst challenging us to think about reciprocity in the restoration of traditional practices.
