Teaching Jazz: Tailoring Music Lessons for Every Student

Delivered by JMI's Course Coordinator, Charlotte Mclean, this workshop is aimed towards teachers looking to develop their skills in lesson planning and development.

Teaching is more than delivering information—it's about connection, creativity, and adaptability. This masterclass will equip music educators of all kinds with innovative strategies for teaching jazz and other styles. It will focus on strategies to cater to individual learning styles and levels, designing effective exercises and exploring the craft of high-quality teaching. Learn how to adapt to the student, teach concepts effectively, and use creativity to problem-solve in lessons. With a special emphasis on jazz pedagogy, this session is designed for singing/instrumental teachers and music lecturers who want to refine their teaching practices and create more engaging, student-centred lessons.
