Teaching Kids Consent
Event description
This workshop is for adults interested in deepening their understanding of consent to empower children and young people. We will discuss ways we can help children to know what safety looks and feels like, provide them with strong language skills to ask for help if they need it, and to identify the safe people in their life for support and protection. This workshop is intended for parents and guardians of children, but all are welcome!
Topics include:
- An overview of the consent framework.
- General awareness raising of sexual harm issues
- Practical tips for teaching children about consent
- Identifying grooming behaviours
- Tips for online safety for children and young people
- Responding to disclosures of harm
- Q&A, including opportunities for anonymous questions
Learning outcomes:
- Improved knowledge of supports available
- Understanding of who/when/where/how sexual harm occurs in our community
- Increased confidence to discuss sexual safety concepts with children and young people
- Knowledge of consent within various contexts
- Improved ability to destigmatize sexual topics and address the drivers of sexual harm
