Event description

Have grandparents? Ageing parents? A friend or rel with a disability? Want to help them live better and independently – safer and happier in their own home? Or are you ‘the meat in the sandwich? The one everyone in your family looks to because you have taken on the vital role of coordinating it all? If that’s you, you know how time-consuming and stressful it is. If you are a digital native you can help! This Spark panel is a must for you. Because digital technology is opening up a whole new world for people with a disability, or just ageing – your own parent and grandparents.

Hear from experts how Technology for the Caring Life can help you help them. Sponsored by Your 100 Year Life (https://your100yearlife.com), a social enterprise dedicated to caring better for those we love, this panel will enthuse and equip you to put your passion and skills to a great purpose. Or maybe it will inspire you to cross the last frontier with us: making technology accessible and useful for those whose lives can truly be transformed by CareTech.

Our Expert Panelists:

He has had a particular interest in the application of technology in the aged care/seniors environment He was the co-founder of the Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council and has run the annual Itac Conference for the last 13 years.

Dr Abby Bloom: We Need More Relevant Technology to Support the Caring Life

Abby is the founder of Your 100 Year Life and an expert in health, ageing and tech. She is a CEO, Chair, Director, Adjunct Professor, and angel investor.  And founder and CEO of Your 100 Year Life, a world-first cloud-based SaaS platform that enables families to better care for their loved ones who are living with a disability or ageing. It is widely recognised that disability, ageing and seniors are large and growing markets. More and better technology is needed. But these sectors need fewer gee-whiz technologies that reflect the stereotypes and passions of developers, and more technology that genuinely addresses the needs of families caring for ageing and disabled members.

Rowan Smith: Bringing Robotics into Healthcare

Rowan Smith is a robotic engineer and the founder of Tech Gym, a multi-award-winning, mobile robotic rehabilitation system for use in hospitals, rehabilitation centres and soon to be in the home as well. Tech Gym’s technology allows patients to access their rehabilitation needs and regain their independence after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or surgery. Tech Gym’s mission is to assist over 1M people to regain their independence and live a happy and full life. Devices like Techgym expand the opportunities for patients to recover faster and better in their own homes –think Peleton for rehab
