Ted Errey Circuit Walk, Brisbane Ranges - Grade 3/4 (Medium/Difficult)

The Werribee Bushwalking & Outdoor Club invites you to join them on an explore of the Ted Errey Circuit Walk in the Brisbane Ranges. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria. 

This is an interesting walk with some climbing. The Ted Errey nature circuit includes interpretive signs about the rich flora along the route. Four stunning lookouts provide views over the flat plains to Port Phillip Bay and to the rugged hills of the goldfields. Part of the walk follows the Stony Creek through scenic and twisting Anakie Gorge.

DISTANCE:  12km Loop walk that will take 4-5hrs including breaks.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk is suitable to walkers with some experience and a good degree of fitness.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.  

AWT GRADE 3/4 (Medium/Difficult) Track conditions vary from flat and smooth to rocky with loose stones, steep ascents and descents and a few obstacles.  AWT Grade information. 

PACE: The pace will vary according to the skills of individual walkers and breaks will be had along the way     

WALK DESCRIPTION: 

The walk starts from the Anakie Gorge picnic ground on a well made track through the gorge for about 1 km. The Ted Errey loop begins with a steep, rocky climb which will take us to Nelson's Lookout where we will take a break to have morning tea and admire the view.
From here the track is quite flat, looping through open forest. After reaching another lookout we have a steep descent into a shady gully and one short ascent (not as steep as the first) before dropping into the Stony Creek Picnic area. From there it is an easy, flat 3 kms through the gorge back to our cars. We will have lunch along the way.

MEETING POINT: Meet at 8.30am for 8:45am departure from the all-day car park opposite Hungry Jacks, Watton St, Werribee. We will carpool from here. Maps will be issued to get to the walk destination. Google Map

TOILETS: There are amenities at both picnic grounds.

WHAT TO BRING

Mandatory:

• Emergency contact form with medical info.  Download this form here, or get one from the leader on the day.
• 2L water
• Backpack
• Rain/wind jacket (conditions can change along the foreshore quickly and even a simple breeze can feel cold)
• Personal first aid kit (your health is your responsibility)
  
• Sun hat/sunscreen

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Werribee Bushwalking & Outdoor Club is a small friendly bunch of like minded people of about 30 members, ranging in age from 35 to 80+. We are from diverse backgrounds but all share a love of bushwalking and other outdoor activities. Our walks are usually held on Sundays in national or state parks, metropolitan parks and some urban areas. We also do occasional overnight walks, weekends away, shutterbug (photography) events and social activities. Club meetings are held at 7.30 pm on the second Thursday of each month in Werribee.
