The past year has upended so much for so many, and forced global reckonings with systems, processes and policies that too often let us down. So … what now?

At TEDxCanberraWomen 2021, you will hear from Canberrans who are leading the conversation about the power of girls and women to be creators and changemakers in a meaningful way. You'll learn the 'what now?' in fields including design, technology, science and culture — and together, we'll envision a future we can build together.

Our speakers and performers are imagining new possibilities and exploring new ideas for how we might improve the way we live and work together in the years to come.

TEDxCanberraWomen 2021 is open to everyone inclusive of all identities across the gender spectrum.

Check out the speaker and performer line-up as it is announced on our social media channels - Facebook and Twitter.

What to expect

'TEDxCanberraWomen 2021: What Now?' will be held in-person at the Kambri Cultural Centre at the ANU. Your registration will give you access to:

  • Welcome to Country ceremony.
  • A full session of TED Talks, music performances and selected short films featuring up-and-coming Australians who are out to change the world
  • Access to the after-party with food and drink included to send off the year

Our speakers and performers

Our speakers will make you laugh, cry and - most importantly - feel inspired by their world-changing stories. They include:

  • Dr Bosibori Bett has decades of experience working in agricultural research, and in improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Africa. At TEDxCanberraWomen 2021, Bosi will draw on her wide and varied experiences to challenge us to think about new paradigms for international development, aid and women’s leadership.
  • Michelle Price is the CEO of AustCyber, Australia's Cyber Security Growth Network, as well as a respected leader in cyber security both in Australia and overseas. At TEDxCanberraWomen 2021, Michelle will discuss how the power of diversity and inclusion is driving a quiet revolution in digital trust; and the culture of innovation we need to have to tackle cybercrime, disinformation, erosion of privacy and the unethical use of technology.
  • Nipuni Wijewickrema is a social entrepreneur who is passionate about empowering people with disabilities to have meaningful employment opportunities. At the age of 20, Nip and her family realised there was a lack of meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities - including her sister Gayana who has Down Syndrome. To allow Gayana to live a life of purpose, Nip and her family established GG's Flowers and Hampers. At TEDxCanberraWomen 2021, Nip will share her reflections on her incredible journey as a social entrepreneur, as well as provocations on what more we can do to empower people with a disability through employment.
  • Dana Hassal grew up on an alpaca farm in country Queensland, finding the perfect level of isolation to lock herself away and create beautiful music. Her songs are described as a cup of tea for the soul with a shot of whisky - and you can experience it for yourself at TEDxCanberraWomen 2021.
  • Madi Kate's remarkable abilities as a guitarist and pianist won her the Gundaroo Emerging Musician Competition. She will bring to TEDxCanberraWomen 2021 a selection of her repertoire of original songs that will leave you wanting more.

In addition to our live speakers and performers, we will also feature an exclusive speaker from the global TEDWomen 2021 conference, which will be held in California's Palm Springs on 1-3 December. More details will be announced closer to the event.

We are delighted that our event will once again be hosted by Canberra-based women's advocate, Dr Nina Terrey, who returns to TEDxCanberraWomen for the third year in a row.
