What if some of the things we believe most strongly are the things we’ve never thought to question?

What if confidence doesn’t have to come before courage? What if belonging shouldn’t require us to change who we are? What if fear didn’t get to make our decisions? What if the timelines we measure ourselves against were never ours to begin with?

And what might become possible if we learned to look beyond the labels, assumptions and stories we place on other people?

LOOK AGAIN is an afternoon of bold ideas, personal stories and different perspectives that invite us to question what we think we know: about ourselves, each other and the world around us.

At the heart of the event are young women from River Nile School, taking to the TEDx stage to share ideas shaped by their lives, cultures, experiences and questions. Their talks explore freedom, fear, confidence, belonging, identity, health, courage and the power to define who we become.

They’ll be joined by community leaders and mentors bringing their own ideas to the stage; challenging us to reconsider how we see young people, what it means to truly see another person, and the pressure to live our lives according to somebody else’s timeline.

But LOOK AGAIN isn’t only about listening.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be invited to add your own voice through interactive experiences that ask you to reflect, question and respond. Come ready to hear perspectives you may not have heard before, encounter ideas that might challenge something you thought you knew, and leave seeing something, or someone, a little differently.

Because sometimes changing the way we see the world begins with being willing to look again.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created TEDx - a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. While the TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, individual TEDx events, including ours, are independently organized.
