Event description

This month the TELedvisors are delighted to have three fantastic presenters:

  • Dr Lauren Halcomb-Smith, Deakin University

who will share their work in the AI space.

AI in Practice: Capturing Innovation and Amplifying Teacher Impact

Generative AI is reshaping how we design, teach, and learn but how do we move beyond hype to real evidence of what works for students?

At UQ, a modest 2024 Teaching Innovation Grant brought together course coordinators, learning designers, and students from five faculties to experiment with AI in teaching. Each innovation was evaluated in partnership with students and captured as a case study,  sharing  the wins, and the challenges and lessons learned. The result is an open eBook of interactive cases that anyone at UQ (and beyond) can draw on to spark ideas, guide practice, and connect with a growing community of AI teaching innovators.

In this session, we’ll share how the project came together, how the cases were captured, and how this work is now being amplified to develop leaders in inclusive teaching with AI.

Sylla and OER: AI-Powered Discovery for Time-Poor Academics and TELedvisors

Open Educational Resources (OER) have the potential to facilitate equity, flexibility, and creative teaching, but finding suitable OER can be time-consuming for already time-poor academics. In this session, Lauren Halcomb-Smith (Lecturer, Open Education) from Deakin will share insights from the Deakin Library’s pilot of Sylla, an AI-powered discovery tool that claims to make locating quality OER faster and easier. You will be invited to share your own big or small successes and ideas for making OER adoption easier and more exciting.

Come for the AI, stay for the inspiration.
