Tell me what to think. The future of AI: DIA Online

Event description

AI has well and truly arrived and designers have lots of questions. So let's chat!

Join us for a conversation between Neil Chenery and Vic/Tas Branch Chair, Karen Webster exploring:

  • What is AI and should we be worried?
  • Is there such a thing as AI art?
  • The ethical use of AI – creator’s rights, copyright, ethical content, shadow AI.
  • Is AI having a real effect on the income of creatives?
  • How do you tell if something is AI generated?
  • How do I use AI, what options are there?
  • What can we expect in the (near) future?

Neil has worked across several art and design fields, firstly as a graphic designer working for small
design studios and agencies in Melbourne and London before pursuing an interest in painting and
drawing, photography and digital imaging, and creative art and design education. He has exhibited in
solo and group shows in Melbourne and Tokyo and worked in digital design and VR for a range of
major companies and government organisations. He has Bachelor degrees from Swinburne and
RMIT and a Masters of Visual Arts through Monash University and is currently a senior academic in
Design Arts at LCI Melbourne.

Karen Webster has been a design advocate and leading academic in Australia’s creative industries for over four decades. She is an avid promoter for Australian fashion sharing her expertise as a consultant, mentor and expert. She has worked across the education spectrum including as Dean and Principal of the Melbourne campus of internationally acclaimed Design Institute LCI and held senior executive positions in the School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT University for over twenty years.
