About the workshop:

Along with investigating people with disability’s experiences of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation, the Disability Royal Commission is also interested in achieving best practice and promoting a more inclusive society that supports people with disability to be independent and live good lives.

If you have a story of inclusion, your experience and insights could make a valuable contribution to the Disability Royal Commission’s work and final recommendations to make Australia a more inclusive place.

This workshop will help you get started in preparing your story of inclusion.

Real life examples of how people with disability have achieved inclusion and belonging can be powerful evidence of what is possible. Your story could help the Disability Royal Commission understand what true inclusion can look like, what does and doesn’t work, and what supportive actions are needed from governments, the private and non-government sectors, and communities.

We will talk about the Promoting Inclusion Issue Paper and there will be time to work on your submission.

The workshop will be presented by Catherine Laherty and Jen Mouritz from CRU.

Anyone can make a submission to the Disability Royal Commission at any time

You do not need to come to this workshop to make a submission to the

Disability Royal Commission. You can make a submission at any time until
the DRC ends. If you would like to respond to the Promoting Inclusion Issues Paper the DRC has asked for responses by 2nd April.

What if I have a different story to tell? Can I get support?

If you have a different story to tell, this workshop may not be as helpful for you. Your story is still important and the DRC will still want to hear it.

Advocacy services are available to help people to say what they want to say, provide advice and act on people’s behalf to get the support they need.

Free legal advisory services are also available to help people with disability, their families, supporters, carers & advocates to interact with the Royal Commission.
