What is the Temuka Colour Canter?
The Temuka Colour Canter, is an approximately 5km long fun run/walk passing through colour stations along the way, it starts and finishes at the Oval in the Temuka Domain. It is an event for people of all ages and abilities so there is no major preparation needed.
The Temuka Colour Canter is all about making memories and having a colour filled fun afternoon with friends and families, so, there are no race times, but you are more than welcome to take your own if you are a competitive Colour Canterer!
How does it work?
Your boring old 5km fun run this is not. You will be travelling through seven colour stations along the way where you will be doused in coloured powder (don’t worry we’ve checked out that it is safe).
This will also be one of the most scenic events of this type you will find. The course follows the tree lined Domain Avenue, taking in views of our picturesque golf course and back through the Temuka Domain for the Colour Canter finishing party complete with band and a variety of food stalls. Just be aware there are some patches of uneven terrain along the course (see, we told you it wasn’t boring!)
What is a colour station?
This is where the magic happens! A colour station is the area that participants pass through and are doused in coloured powder allowing them cross the finish line looking something like a rainbow! We have seven of these stations along the way.
The colours are 100% non-toxic starch powder that is safe for the skin.

Yeah Nah, we’re just kidding. Of course we have some, but, there aren’t many so we would appreciate it if you followed them.

FAQs
- Do I need to run the Colour Canter?
No way! You can run, walk, skip, hop, crawl or roll – it’s entirely up to you!
- Is there an age limit?
All ages are welcome, and we hope to see people from one to at least 91
- Can I use my pushchair?
Sure can, just be aware there is a bit of uneven terrain so probably not the best place for your wee umbrella stroller, best to use something a bit sturdier.
- Can I bring my pets?
Sorry no, this is an event for your human family and friends only.
- What do I wear?
White, white, white and more white.
- Do we get timed?
Nope, the only time we are worried about is a fun time!
- What time does the event start?
The Temuka Colour Canter briefing will be at 3.15 – please make sure you are there, we would hate you to get lost and miss the after party! The first people step over the line at 3.30pm with waves been sent off every two minutes.
- Where do I park?
There will be parking available on the surrounding streets but also parking on the grass verges on the lead up to the swimming pool and Torepe Fields. If you enter the Domain at the gate next to the Police Station and follow the road round veering to the right.
All other car parks around the Oval/Stadium/Rugby Club will be unavailable as these will be used for emergency access.
- Do the colour stations affect vision or breathing?
The powder is made from starch powder and certified as non-toxic and free of heavy metals. Like all substances you will want to try avoid getting it into your eyes, our colour throwers will be working hard at helping you with this. Some Colour Canterer’s choose to wear glasses or goggles and use dust masks or bandanas.
- Is the colour permanent?
While it is not as a rule permanent we do suggest leaving those expensive running shoes at home and maybe covering your pushchairs if you are worried. Generally colour is not difficult to wash off but with some people it may take a couple of washes for your skin to be completely colour free. If you are worried about your hair we suggest a hat, wig or shower cap. It has also been suggested that leave in conditioner or oil will help also. This applies especially to those with blonde/white hair.
You have been warned, you can’t hold us responsible for any new hair colours, clothes colours or re-designed pushchairs.
- Can I buy extra colour?
Sure can, we want to keep the colour flowing. You can buy extra colour on the day.
- How will it affect the inside of my car?
We suggest bringing an old towel or plastic bag to sit on. Or, even a change of clothes.
- Are cameras and phones safe?
We keep our photographers at a medium distance to be safe. We suggest covering your phone/camera in plastic wrap or popping it in a glad-bag to stop those sneaky dust particles. We can’t be held responsible for any damage to your equipment.
- Where do I go for registration pack pick up?

Friday, 16th October 2026 3.00pm – 5.00pm
Please note: There will be NO registration pick ups on the day, if you can’t make one of these slots please get your pack couriered or someone else to pick it up for you.
- What is in my registration pack?
Well to start off your super cool, super important race number – no number, no crossing the start line, yep we are such meanies!
There will be an information sheet with all the bits and pieces you need to know for the day.
- What does it cost to get my pack couriered?
$8 per entry
- When will packs be sent?
Approximately one week before the event, we will confirm when they are jetting their way to you!
- Can I pick up my pack on the day?
Nope, if you can’t make one of the pick-ups you will need to get it couriered or someone else to pick it up for you.
- Do I have to stay with my kids?
Well that is entirely up to you, your kids are your responsibility!
We recommend if they are going to be ahead of you, make an agreed meeting point or plan of attack before the event.
There will be an information tent and the stage that you can come to and we can put a call out if need be.
- Is there a t-shirt in my registration pack?
No, we know how much people love to dress up at these events so have left it up to the individual to get their own t-shirt.
- Where are the toilets?
There will be toilets at the start / finish line, there are also some over at the playground but none on the course.
- What if I hurt myself?
We will have a qualified first aid team at the event. If you need help on the course, if you can and is safe to do so please make way to the nearest colour station where help will be available. Alternatively, stay put and get someone to run to the nearest colour station or call for help.
- What if it rains?
Unless you are a disprin you’re not going to dissolve so it’s all systems go. But of course it is entirely up to you whether or not you still come along and join in the fun. We will only cancel if it is a serious weather event that is going to affect our participants and volunteers safety. Remember there are no refunds.
- Can I transfer my entry?
Yes, up until two days before the event. Just email us at fosj@stjotemu.school.nz with Transfer in the subject box. Please verify all your registration information in the body of the email along with the new participants’ details.
- Can some else pick up my registration pack?
Yes, no problems.
- Are there refunds?
We are sorry, but there are absolutely no refunds for any reason. You can transfer your entry to someone else up until two days before the event.
- What happens at the finish line?
One heck of a party! You can celebrate with your friends and family finishing the event, we will have various food vendors around the oval, a band playing and a good old party going on! If parties aren’t your thing there is a great playground, bird aviary, mini golf, tennis courts, skate/scooter park and even a petanque court to fill in your evening with.
- What if I want to volunteer?

- Who is running this awesome event?
Friends of St Joseph’s School Temuka (FOSJ), we are the equivalent of your school’s PTA or Home & School Committee. First and foremost we are wanting to showcase our wee town to a wide range of people and get people in our town excited about showing it off to you. Hit up your friends and family here for a bed and make a whole weekend of it. We will be using this as a school fundraiser to raise funds for a school van,

Terms and Conditions
The following is the text of the terms, conditions and waiver which all entrants must accept when
entering the Temuka Colour Canter.
Terms, Conditions and Waiver
1. I understand that competing in the Temuka Colour Canter (the event) involves the real risk of
serious injury or even death from various causes including but not limited to overexertion, heart
attack, dehydration, allergic reaction or accidents. I understand that competing in the event
involves running or walking on public roads used by other people and traffic, and I am aware of the
hazards involved. The hazards include but are not limited to: vehicle traffic, actions of competitors,
spectators, event personnel, weather conditions, and my physical and mental state of health.
2. I understand that I must not compete in the event unless I have trained appropriately, my
physical condition has been verified by a medical practitioner, and I confidently believe that I am
sufficiently fit and healthy to compete in the event.
3. By competing, I accept all risks necessarily flowing from my participation which could result in
loss of life or permanent injury. Accordingly, I release all persons or corporations associated
directly or indirectly with the conduct of the event from all claims demands and proceedings arising
out of my participation and I hereby indemnify them against all liability (including liability for their
negligence and/or recklessness and the negligence and/or recklessness of others) for all injury,
loss or damage arising out of or connected with my participation in the event. This release shall
extend to and include: the organisers of the and their associates, including agents, contractors,
employees and volunteers (including medical and paramedical personnel) appointed for the event;
the owners, licensees and occupiers of land upon which the event or any part of it is conducted;
any statutory body or local authority having control over any land upon which the event or any part
of it is conducted or which is involved directly or indirectly with the event in any manner
whatsoever; and promoters, sponsors and event organisers. This release and indemnity continues
forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representative and assigns.
4. I consent to receiving any medical treatment that the event organisers think desirable during or
after the event.
5. I acknowledge that safety precautions undertaken by organisers (such as course supervision,
event rules and the race safety briefing) are a service to me and other competitors but are not a
guarantee of safety. I accept that I have an important responsibility to carefully read and listen to all
safety briefings and to immediately seek clarification on anything which is not entirely clear to me.
6. I consent to the event organisers using my name, image and likeness before, during or after the
event for event promotional broadcasting or reporting purposes in any media.
7. I understand that I am fully responsible for the security of my personal possessions at the event.
8. I understand that entry fees are non-refundable.
9. If the event is cancelled due to poor weather or any other condition beyond the control of the
organisers, I accept that my entry fee will not be refunded.
10. I agree to my name and contact details being included on the event database. These maybe
used for promotional purposes by event stakeholders. I may unsubscribe from this at any time.
11. I agree to abide by all race rules and directions issued by the event organiser.
12. I acknowledge that by reason of circumstances beyond the control of the event directors, it may
become necessary or desirable to change the format of the event, and if that occurs, I consent to
the changes and I agree that each and every one of the conditions herein set out shall apply to that
changed event.
13. If I am aged under 16 years, I will have these terms and conditions viewed and agreed to by my
legal guardian in order for me to compete in the event, and that legal guardian will be responsible
for my safety during the event.
