Description

“Tenderloin Blackness” Black History Walking Tour with Del Seymour

Saturday February 21, 2026 | 2:00 - 3:30pm

Meet at Tenderloin Museum | 398 Eddy St. SF, CA 94102

Tickets include museum admission AND a "Tenderloin Blackness" t-shirt!

In celebration of Black History Month, TLM teams up with the “Mayor of the Tenderloin” and Tenderloin Blackness creator Del Seymour to offer a special walking tour highlighting the contributions and culture of the Black community in the TL past and present.

TLM is thrilled to collaborate once again with Del Seymour, whose lived experience in the Tenderloin is as legendary as his charismatic walking tours, the original resident-led trip through the neighborhood. In addition to his prowess and perspective of a tour guide to a neighborhood many overlook or avoid, Del is celebrated for founding Code Tenderloin, the workforce development organization rooted in the TL community, and is a mainstay of many of the neighborhood’s social service organizations and community groups.

Del is also Black and proud of it. Over 2023-2024, he collaborated with TLM to create Tenderloin Blackness, an ongoing series of exhibitions, tours, and public programs to witness and elevate the Black community in the Tenderloin and their vital, multitudinous roles in the neighborhood. In celebration of Black History Month and inspired by the Tenderloin Blackness project, TLM and Del offer a special walking tour that explores the neighborhood’s Black history.

Expect a deep dive into the legacy of Cecil Williams at the GLIDE Memorial Church, the work of Leroy Looper and the Cadillac Hotel (the building in which TLM is located), as well as the stories of extraordinary and everyday folks in the Black community who are active in the neighborhood today as leaders, characters, and comrades.

The tour meets at TLM at 2pm on 2/21/26 and will last about 90 minutes. All attendees will receive one of Del’s coveted “Tenderloin Blackness” t-shirts, so share your size when you register to attend!
