Week 1: Introduction to Wheel Throwing
- Learn studio safety, clay preparation (wedging), and the basics of centering clay on the wheel. Plenty of practice time.
Week 2: Basic Shapes
- Refine centering and learn how to throw simple cylinders and bowls. Focus on control and evenness of shape.
Week 3: Perfecting Forms
- Continue practicing cylinders and bowls, introducing trimming techniques to refine the base of your pieces.
Week 4: Mugs & Handles (Optional)
- Throw mugs or vessels with the option to add handles and attachments, OR Continue improving your shaping and trimming skills.
Week 5: Surface Decoration & Glazing
- Learn decoration techniques like carving, stamping, and applying underglazes. Begin glazing any bisque-fired pieces.
Week 6: Finishing & Glazing
- Finalize any unfinished pieces and complete glazing. Prepare your work for the final firing.
This course provides plenty of time to practice on the wheel, focusing on building your skills.
