***************************

Tessie Overmyer is a saxophonist and composer currently based in New York City. Originally from Newcastle, Australia, she is undertaking a Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music.

Tessie’s energetic, melodic approach to improvisation and her ability to tell stories through composition have earned her numerous accolades, including second place in the 2024 National Jazz Awards, a nomination for the 2023 Freedman Jazz Fellowship, and a composition commission from ABC Jazz.

Since moving to the U.S., she has participated in the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy under the direction of Christian McBride, and Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center, led by Jason Moran. She has performed at Dizzy’s Jazz Club, and as a member of the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra, has shared the stage with Terri Lyne Carrington, Jimmy Greene, and Ingrid Jensen.

Her highly anticipated debut album, Tidelines, will be released on Earshift Music in September 2025. The album features eight original compositions that reflect the full range of Tessie’s compositional voice, alongside her dynamic and virtuosic approach to improvisation on the alto saxophone.

This performance celebrates the launch of the album’s first single and offers a preview of what’s to come.

“Tessie has a gift that can't be learned: a natural flow for the future and the ability to speak the poetry of life and death through her horn.”
