Test Garden - Seed ball and botanical printing workshops with KHT
Event description
Come along to the Test Garden at Fed Square for our monthly open day. Hear from gardeners, designers and horticulturalists, and take part in workshops designed to connect you with nature.
This May, following our Meet the Gardener talk, take part in our free drop-in workshops presented in collaboration with the Koorie Heritage Trust. Led by First Peoples creatives, these hands-on sessions will use seeds, flowers and plants found in the Test Garden, to create art and help you grow your own plants at home.
Join Sammy Trist (Taungurung) to explore the world of Indigenous seeds as you create your own seed ball using Indigenous seeds, clay and paper pulp. Take your seed ball home, toss it into the garden, and watch it grow!
In a hands-on workshop with Emma Stenhouse (Ngarrindjeri), learn how to create beautiful botanical prints on fabric using a portable printing press and Indigenous plants. Discover how pressing plant materials releases natural tannins that, when activated with a simple iron solution, form unique patterns – then experiment with fabrics and techniques to craft a one-of-a-kind print to take home.
- All materials are provided
- All ages welcome
- Each workshop takes 15-30 minutes and you can drop in at any time between 11.30am – 1.30pm
- These programs will be held outdoors in the Test Garden at Fed Square. Please bring a hat and water bottle
- The Test Garden is located next to the Fed Square car park (Wilson Parking) on Russell Street Extension
