Entry instructions

The museum features two main entrances, ensuring accessibility for all visitors. The west-side entrance is a step-free entry directly connected to the sidewalk, providing seamless access. The east-side entrance includes steps, but a wheelchair-accessible ramp is available on the left side of the entrance. Inside, an additional ramp has been designed alongside the stairs to further enhance accessibility. Courtesy wheelchairs are available upon request. Courtesy wheelchairs are available with a photo ID. Pre-booking a wheelchair is essential, please phone 9298 3777. There is lift or ramp access to all exhibition spaces within the main building, and to wharves and the viewing platform outside the museum. Unfortunately due to the vessel design and walkways on the vessels, wheelchair access is not available. There are lounge spaces throughout the museum at the Tasman Light gallery, Sydney Harbour gallery, Bamal gallery and Foyer to enjoy rest/take time out during your visit. The cafe at the ANMM is also wheelchair accessible.

The 2025 ARC Conference, Aspire, will be taking place in the Theatre of the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM). To locate the theatre, enter via the main entrance and turn immediately left. • The museum, and the theatre, can be accessed via ramp or stairs. • There is a hearing loop available in the Theatre for all conference attendees. • Directly outside the Theatre is the Tasman Light Gallery where we will have our breaks. It includes a lounge space for quiet retreat throughout the conference. Please make use of it at any time during proceedings. • All the museum’s air conditioning and ventilation systems comply with AS1668.2-2012 and carbon filters are used in addition to the standard requirements. The ANMM also has the ability to introduce 100% fresh air into the theatre at any time. • The Maritime Museum is a Sunflower friendly venue. The Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities. Thanks to Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Australia & New Zealand our staff wearing a Sunflower badge have been trained to recognise this symbol and will be of assistance where they can. You are encouraged to bring and wear your sunflower lanyard if you have one, or pick one up for free on arrival to the museum. • We will have respirator-style masks available at our reception desk throughout the conference. These are to provide an extra level of safety for anyone who wishes to use them. If you would like to wear a mask, you are warmly encouraged to do so. • The ANMM has courtesy wheelchairs that can be pre-booked for use during the conference. If you would like to book a wheelchair, please let our team know.
