Course 1: Testing web accessibility for teams

Duration: 3 x 2-hour sessions over 3 weeks

Need some tips to get your teams into testing? Learn some quick and easy checks that will uncover common accessibility issues we see in websites and web apps.

You will learn about:

• Using automated and manual testing techniques
• Making sure all tasks can be completed using a keyboard
• Using tools to check contrast and colour usage
• Identifying different image types and checking accessible alternatives for images
• Checking content structure is logical and meaningful
• Making sure all tasks can be completed using a keyboard
• Checking form labels and instructions are clear and coded correctly

Knowledge level

• No prior accessibility knowledge is required.

Technology requirements

To take part in some of the activities, you’ll need to download and install the following browser extensions before the start of the course:

• axe DevTools (Chrome, Firefox or Edge)
• Accessibility Insights for Web (Chrome or Edge)

 

Course 2: Accessibility testing with NVDA

Duration: 3 x 2-hour sessions over 3 weeks

Explore screen readers in action. Learn from someone with lived experience and find out how screen readers really work. Gain hands-on experience using NVDA to test your product's accessibility.

You will learn about:

• How people use screen readers to access digital content
• Setting up NVDA
• NVDA keyboard commands and features
• Different ways of navigating with NVDA
• Testing headings, links, landmarks, graphics, lists, tables and forms

Knowledge level

• No prior accessibility knowledge is required.
