Teulo Talks Live: Auckland
Description
You've sat through enough one-size-fits-all seminars. It's time for a night that actually activates your practice. Teulo Talks LIVE is where bold ideas meet global voices.
This November at Pipiri Lane, Auckland, we're exploring Regenerative Design Intelligence — how evidence-based design, environmental data, and systems thinking are moving the built environment beyond simply reducing harm, toward creating measurable positive impact, in a CPD-accredited evening with RIOS' Dr Golnaz Ighany.
Thank you to our keynote sponsors, Resene Construction Systems and Resene Paints, for helping to bring this event to our community!
About Your Keynote:
Dr Golnaz Ighany, Sustainability Director | Architect, PhD, ARB, RIOS
Golnaz is an accomplished architect who, as Sustainability Director, guides RIOS' global response to climate challenges. She drives innovation in regenerative, climate-positive design while fostering multidisciplinary collaboration across project teams.
Her expertise spans the full spectrum of sustainable design implementation, from aligning practice vision with science-based climate initiatives aligned with the Paris Agreement, to creating comprehensive frameworks that embed sustainability principles throughout architectural practice. She brings deep experience advancing projects toward Whole Life Net Zero Carbon, with strength in addressing the complex environmental challenges of both new construction and historic building contexts — she has contributed to landmark projects including London's Bloomberg Headquarters, Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, and the Stirling Building at the University of Cambridge.
Golnaz's approach integrates advanced environmental strategies with strong architectural aesthetics, ensuring sustainability enhances rather than compromises design excellence. Her methodology includes creating frameworks such as sustainability think tanks and design protocols that systematically guide project teams toward climate-positive outcomes across diverse building typologies and cultural contexts.
She holds a PhD from the University of Palermo, where her dissertation won first place in the EDUCATE Prize at the PLEA Conference. Her expertise has been recognised with a finalist nomination in the 2024 WICE Awards, and she served on the IBPSA-USA Research Committee and as an NLA Expert on Net Zero strategies. Her previous experience includes key sustainability roles at BDP, Stanton Williams, and Foster + Partners.
Golnaz's Keynote Topic:
Regenerative Design Intelligence: From Evidence-Based Design to Impact
This presentation explores how Regenerative Design Intelligence can transform the way we shape the built environment by combining evidence-based design, environmental data, systems thinking, and collaborative practice. It examines how designers can move beyond reducing environmental harm towards creating measurable positive impacts. Through practical case studies and performance-led design approaches, the session demonstrates how informed decision-making at the earliest stages of design can accelerate the transition from net zero ambitions to truly regenerative outcomes.
What you'll take away:
Understand the principles of Regenerative Design Intelligence, and how evidence-based design, environmental performance analysis, and systems thinking can inform regenerative decisions from the earliest stages of a project.
See how Environmental Intelligence supports better design outcomes — how climate analysis, performance simulation, and measurable design metrics can guide integrated decisions that balance environmental, social, and economic objectives.
Recognise the importance of collaboration and measurable impact — how multidisciplinary collaboration, performance-driven frameworks, and clear sustainability targets can help deliver projects with lasting positive outcomes.
