Visible Mending for Beginners: Basket Darning
Event description
This event is now sold out. Please consider attending another fun Textile Trail event!
Join WMRC and Tobi Beckley for a beginners mending workshop hosted by Calico and Ivy!
This workshop is designed to inspire and empower participants to mend their existing wardrobe. Mending is an act of love and Tobi wants to pass on these age-old skills so we can make our treasured pieces last for generations (and keep them out of the bin). Basket darning is a versatile and effective mending technique that provides many different ways to experiment with colour, texture and shape. It is a joyful launch pad for those wanting to try visible mending with pretty designs for the first time.
Attendees will:
- Be introduced to the basket darning technique.
- Be shown several demonstrations of this darning technique on different types of clothing, including woven fabrics.
- Practice darning techniques on swatches that will be provided.
- Practice darning techniques on your own clothing with holes in it.
Attendees will be provided their own repair kit and are asked to bring along a woollen or cotton garmen that has a few holes in it (such as a medium weight knitted jumper or a pair of jeans). Attendees are asked to bring along small sewing scissors, a notebook, and a pen.
This is a great workshop for people passionate about sustainability and looking for new ways to look after their textile items.
