Textiles In Sustainability

About this Event:

Discussing, demonstrating and experiencing the challenges faced in the textile reuse industry. Form a social enterprise and use your own textile waste to support a charity.

This workshop will cover:

  • Textile recognition and sorting
  • Social enterprise structure
  • Hands-on textile repurposing techniques
  • The ability to recognise potential and pitfalls in textiles waste
  • Create items from textile waste that will be sold to support charity.

In addition to technical skills, this workshop encourages creativity by allowing young makers the freedom to customise their design as well as choose their own fabric and finishings.

Places are limited and bookings are essential.

All sessions take place on-site at Makerspace Adelaide with small group sizes and direct instruction from an experienced textile maker, cost is inclusive of all materials.

Participants are encouraged to bring a bag of clean but unwanted textiles that are too worn out for charity donation and extra pairs of fabric scissors.

This session is suitable for teens and adults; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No prior experience is necessary, assistance and instruction is available throughout the session.
