EQUITY SCHEME
SciSoc is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all attendees of the Science Ball. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. To support this, we have an equity scheme in place to provide a limited number of fully subsidised tickets to those who may need financial assistance. This initiative is generously sponsored by the Faculty of Science.
To be eligible for equity, applicants must be students enrolled in a degree or major within the Faculty of Science and be registered members of the Society for the year of application. They must also be experiencing financial or personal hardship, such as not being supported by family, relocating from another city and seeking employment, facing a recent personal tragedy, receiving Centrelink benefits, being eligible for a university bursary including the E12 program / MySydney Scholarship, identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or being a disabled student registered with University Disability Services. Other valid financial hardships may also be considered. A full list can be found in the SciSoc Bylaws linked in our bio.Applications for equity will open at 5pm on Sunday, 25th August.
Applications will remain open until 5pm on Sunday, 8th September. The provision of equity tickets will be decided by the application assessment panel which consists of the President and the Core Executive, with advice from the appointed Equity Officer. All applications will be anonymised by the Treasurer, removing personal identifiers such as names and contact details, prior to presentation to the application assessment panel. Successful and non-successful applicants will be notified in email by the Treasurer at least 24 hours prior to the release of late round tickets.
Other key information:
Table allocations will open after ticket sales have closed. Tables will be in groups of ten and you will have the option of selecting a table. After allocations have closed, we will assign any unallocated attendees to tables based on year and major to give you a chance to meet like-minded people. Please keep an eye out on our socials and emails for further information on seating selections.
If you have a date or friend that does not attend the University of Sydney, then they are more than welcome to attend.
Please note, this is a strictly 18+ event. Valid ID and your ticket must be presented upon arrival. SciSoc and the USU promote responsible drinking.
