    'LIVE THE DAY' - The 130th Anniversary of Seven Little Australians

    Please join the Friends of Ethel Turner at ‘Woodlands’ Killara as we celebrate September 1894 when Ethel received her first copy of Seven Little Australians.

    'Woodlands' a heritage-listed property was once home to Ethel Turner and where she penned this classic story.

    We'll be celebrating Ethel Turner's remarkable life and her groundbreaking children's novel, Seven Little Australians.

    A family day with speakers, music, tours, games and activities.

    Schedule below (subject to change):

    10am Welcome by Owner and Custodian, Albert Lim.

    10.05am Welcome by Federal Member for Bradfield & Shadow Minister for Science and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP.

    10.15am Opening Address by Presenter at 2MBS FineMusic Sydney and Ethel Turner's great-grandson, Peter Poole.

    10.30am Talk: Introducing Ethel Turner by Author and Editor of FOET Newsletter, Abbey Lane.

    11.15am Talk: Ethel and 'Inglewood': Stories of Lindfield by Historian, Tracey Fiertl

    12.00pm Talk: Family Reflections – by Presenter at 2MBS FineMusic Sydney and Ethel Turner’s great-grandson, Peter Poole.

    12.30pm Music Performance by The Killara High School String Quintet

    1pm Talk: Ethel's Legacy at Sydney Girls High School by former student and award-winning, Author and Poet, Libby Hathorn.

    1.30pm Music Performance by Ravel Ensemble from Lindfield Public School.

    2.00pm Reading from Seven Little Australians with Writer and Poet, Wendy Blaxland.

    2.15pm Tour of Woodlands with Abbey Lane(SOLD OUT)

    3pm Tour of Woodlands with Tracey Fiertl (SOLD OUT)

    3.30pm Tour of Woodlands with Albert Lim (SOLD OUT)

    The admission fee includes performances, talks, games and activities, and entry to the museum rooms of the house. View the Drawing Room, a time portal to Ethel's world; and the Ladies Lounge as we celebrate this remarkable author and 1880s Victorian-Georgian architecture with a federation overlay. Please note: The house is not open during tour times.

    Purchase a cuppa and treat and relax at a table adorned in vintage table linen while listening to speakers and performers.

    On the Tennis court:

    Kids’ games and activities include cornhole, quoits, noughts and crosses, checkers, skittles and juggling demonstration;

    Story Book Corner - take a break, grab a book and relax and read on blankets and cushions;

    Giant Jar of Marbles: Guess the number and win; 

    Great Kid’s Book Stack Raffle with many author/illustrator’s signed treasures including Ethel Turner’s Seven Little Australians; and
