Event description

Join us to celebrate the outstanding researchers awarded a 2024 JMI Policy Challenge Grant.

The Policy Challenge Grants support university researchers tackling some of the nation’s most complex policy challenges. In 2024, JMI will award grants to nine ambitious projects that will generate new and innovative policy insights in the areas of:

  • Generating affordable housing through community land trusts | Lead researcher: Louise Crabtree-Hayes (Western Sydney University)
  • Bringing community voices into policy: renewables in the Hunter | Lead researcher: Amanda Tattersall (University of Sydney)
  • Housing affordability and the teacher shortage: systemic implications | Lead researcher: Scott Eacott (University of New South Wales)
  • Integrated policies for Net Zero and affordable housing | Lead researcher: Eshan Noroozinejad (Western Sydney University)
  • Aboriginal-led justice solutions: strategies for reinvestment | Lead researcher: Fiona Allison (University of Technology Sydney)
  • A new ‘build-to-rent-to-own’ model for ‘generation rent’ | Lead researcher: Caitlin McGee (University of Technology Sydney)
  • Advancing the Net Zero energy transition through co-design | Lead researcher: Simon Wright (Charles Sturt University)
  • Developing a place-based Childcare Stress Index | Lead researchers: Angela Smith and Rhonda Itaoui (Western Sydney University)
  • Integrating evidence on early intervention in government policy | Lead researcher: Alfredo Paloyo (University of Wollongong).

By the end of this year, JMI will have awarded a total of $1.5M through our Policy Challenge Grants to more than 20 projects involving 60-plus researchers, including projects led by First Nations and early-career researchers.

Hear about this important work to improve lives and empower communities in a presentation from 6pm to 7pm followed by celebratory drinks.
