In the yogic sciences, there is a saying. “Your habits define you.” The problems in life come from our habits. Our actions come from our habits.

Kundalini Yoga recognises every soul as perfect, pure and Divine at the start. There is nothing to redeem or purify at the soul level. The soul is complete and beautiful as it is. But life is based on our habits. Our habits define us to ourselves and to other people. By our habits, we live in peace and happiness. By our habits, we create misery and pain. When we change our habits, everything around us can change

However, if you want to permanently change your habits, and realise the full effects of the change, this is what you have to do:

Practice a particular meditation every single day for the same amount of time. Based on the number of days you do this ie 40, you will break any negative habits that block you from living a better life.

These habits may include:

  • lack of self love
  • lack of compassion
  • addiction
  • emotional upsets
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • reaction

The benefits are:

  • reduces stress and anxiety
  • improves sleep patterns
  • decreases inflammation

In this instance we are practicing a meditation to balance the mind/brain.  It is called Kirtan Kriya.

This meditation brings mental balance. Through this practice, the mind awakens to the infinite capacity of the soul for sacrifice, service, and creation.

Research has shown that 11 minutes of Kirtan Kriya a day can improve cognition and memory function, and helps to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

Kirtan kriya is practiced in a cycle, in which the mantra is first chanted aloud, then whispered, and finally repeated silently, before the whole sequence is reversed. 

These five primal sounds (panj shabd) are derived from the bij mantra, Sat Nam: S, T, N, M, and A. Each time the mudra is closed by joining the thumb with a finger, the ego “seals” the effect of that mudra in the consciousness.

Vibrating on each fingertip alternates the electrical polarities. The index and ring fingers are electrically negative, relative to the other fingers. This causes a balance in the electromagnetic projection of the aura.

Chanting out loud, whispering, and silence are considered the three languages of consciousness.

Each week we will meet on a Tuesday evening to practice the meditation together as a group and you will continue this practice in your own time at any given time of the day for 11 minutes.
